PDFVue Beta Quick Start Guide

Overview

Viewing and Editing PDF's will never be the same with PDFVue, the easiest and fastest way to collaborate with PDF's online. PDFVue offers features and capabilities previously only found in the most expensive PDF software and we are bringing these features to everyone for free.

What can you do with PDFVue?

How do I get started?

Once you are at the PDFVue.com site all that is needed to get started is upload your PDF document. Once your PDF document is uploaded, you will be able to use all the available tools for annotating and sharing the PDF.

The top toolbar provides document management and sharing and the right toolbar provides markup and form tools.

Available Tools and Functions

These screenshots provide a quick reference to the all the available functions.

File Navigation Toolbar

These screenshots provide a quick reference to the all the available functions. The File Navigation toolbar is located at the top of PDFVue and provides basic file management and document navigation controls.

Annotation Toolbar

The Annotation toolbar provides a palette of tools to edit and markup documents in PDFVue. The toolbar is organized by tabs located at the top of the toolbar. The Markup tab provides tools for adding text, notes, lines, and shapes to existing PDF's.

The markup pane is shown below.

The following markup tools are available within the markup pane:

Typewriter tool: allows free placement of text

Sticky note tool: provides common note format for placing comments

Rectangle tool: used for placing squares or rectangles on documents

Line tool: places lines of any orientation

Oval tool: used for making circles or ovals

Link tool: allows placement and definition of hyperlinks and email addresses (via mailto:)

Annotation Properties

Following placement of an annotation on the document, the following properties can be set to tailor the annotation.

With the annotation properties, the colors of all elements can be changed including borders and text. Borders can be added or removed to shapes by using the border checkbox. The fill checkbox performs in the same manner. If chosen then the shape element will have a fill color.

The Printable checkbox is used to set the PDF property so when the PDF is printed the annotation is not displayed.

For existing annotations, properties can be displayed by selecting the annotation and viewing the properties window.

Forms Toolbar

The Forms toolbar gives users an easy way to create forms from existing documents. The available forms tools are shown once the Forms tab is selected. The available forms tools allow placement of textboxes, checkboxes, radio buttons, comboboxes, listboxes, and submission buttons.

The forms pane is shown below.

The following provides a brief description of the available forms tools.

Textbox tool: inserts a textbox form element for creating text form fields (i.e. name, address, etc.)

Checkbox tool: insertion of checkboxes (used for form elements such as "Check this box to receive our newsletter")

Radio button tool: insert radio buttons. Similar to checkboxes but used for either or choices (i.e. male or female)

Combobox tool: used for providing a dropdown selection list from which users can select one item.

Listbox tool: used to provide lists of elements which users can select from one or more items.

Submit Button tool: used to define how and where the form information is transmitted (either via HTTP post or mailto).

Forms Properties

Forms properties allow customization of the forms as with annotations. Forms properties include additional fields specific to creating PDF forms including Field Name and Value.

Field Name is used to recognize the form element upon receipt and value is used to define the contents of the form element. (i.e. if two radio buttons are created on a form, the value of the first one could be true and the value of the second one could be false. Alternatively, if a textbox is used there would be no initial value as the intent of this element is to capture the users input.

Summary Pane

The summary pane shows the annotations that have been made on the document. Each listing is selectable and upon clicking, PDFVue will automatically proceed to the annotation in the document, providing a quick way to navigate a documents annotations.

If annotations existing prior to PDFVue upload they will be marked as an imported annotation. To manage these annotations, users can choose to show or hide them as needed.
